Fear of a Black First Lady…

Michelle Obama

By Thought Merchant

As guest writer GregX stated in the preceding post, mainstream media has clearly changed gears in its opinion of Barack Obama. The “messiah”, as the media irreverently called him, is now ready for “crucifixion”.

The first line of attack was the ridiculous flack over the alleged “plagiarism of words” from Obama friend and supporter Duval Patrick. Obama’s retort in Wisconsin to the charge by Hillary Clinton that his soaring oratory was “just words” came from a 2006 speech that was consensually taken from his friend, then candidate for Governor of Massachusetts, Duval Patrick.

The notion that the common practice of borrowing portions of speeches from other politicians–particularly those who were close friends–rises to the level of media frenzy concerning Obama’s credibility illustrates one of the low points in corporate medias attempt to smear Barack Obama.

However, the “scandal” that truly rocked mainstream media stemmed from a statement made by Michelle Obama that has been elevated almost to the level of high treason.

During a campaign speech for her husband, Michelle Obama said:

“Let me tell you something. For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country, because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback.”

Mrs. Obama then went on to state:

“And let me tell you something. I need to believe that we live in that kind of nation, where hope and possibility and unity is still what drives us.”

An objective person might ask, “What is the big deal about that statement?” The “big deal” is only recognized if one understands America’s racist history of attempting to portray African Americans as “unpatriotic.” This constant onslaught on the sensibilities of Black people and their American identity is a direct result of the true ignorance most Americans have about the history of Black people in the United States.

Important African American liberation struggles that came via men like Paul Robeson, leaders such as Malcolm X, and organizations like the Black Panther Party have always been used by Americas ruling class to illustrate that Black folk are innately subversive and have some perpetual plot to overtake the government looming in their minds.

However, the corrupt mainstream media while working at the behest of the American Ruling class always fails to illustrate the nuance in the degree of savage oppression and literal terrorism Black Americans have lived under up until at least the late 1960’s–and often times beyond that point.

In the face of this toxic message of looming Black treason constantly being sent out by the American ruling class, Barack Obama’s political campaign exudes a racial transcendence that I argue is not merely a cynical attempt to “con” white people into accepting a viable Black candidate, but a sincere attempt by Obama to create a coalition that rises above all the identity politics that has haunted America from its birth to the 1960’s.

Therefore, it is crucial that Obama: a bi-racial child of a Kenyan father with no organic connection to the American slave trade–keep vexing issues of race as far away from his campaign as possible. After all, Bill Clinton has already tried to margenilize Obama as “just another Black candidate.”

Enter Michelle Obama: A woman who no one can dare inquire–as they did about her husband: “Is she Black enough?” In the eyes of many Americans they fear that Michelle might be, well, “too Black.” Or as rap group Public Enemy used to say: “Too Black, Too Strong.”

While Barack Obama’s bi-racial complexion juxtaposed with his non-threatening charm and wiry frame make him the epitome of the “Guess whose coming to dinner Negroes”, Michelle Obama is from the South Side of Chicago, Brown Skinned, 5 foot 11 and clearly has told her share of people to  “talk to the hand.”

In other words, Michelle Obama projects the aura of an intelligent Harvard trained, Princeton educated attorney with the confident strength, poise, and razor sharp honesty of a Black women who has navigated through the mean streets of  Chicago’s South Side unscathed. This is not the biography of the recent stepford wives that have occupied the roll of First Lady.

Furthermore, one can contend that Michelle Obama even trumps the Yale Law school educated First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, who though was perhaps the first “professional” to be First Lady, never dealt with the reality of being a Black women growing up in the Chicago streets while still academically excelling beyond the expectations of many from her origins.

Taking the horrid history of the American ruling class questioning Black patriotism, and Michelle Obama’s personal history into consideration, the corrupt corporate media are trying to use Michelle Obama’s innocent statement about her “new-found” or maybe just “rejuvenated” pride in America as a sign that she is not patriotic.

In retrospect, if Michelle Obama was white can we truly say that her comments would have become an issue? Therefore, the scrutiny of her comments must then be looked at in the crucible of race and hence can be validly be considered “racist”.

If Laura Bush made the same statement about George W. Bush while taking pride in her husbands handling of 911– i.e.”In the face of this tragedy, for the first time in my I adult life I REALLY feel proud to be an American” or some similar statement at some point in Bush’s career, would people like Bill O’Reilly be having shows dedicated to the question of “Does Laura Bush Dislike America?” as he is having a show dedicated to the question: “Does Michelle Obama Dislike America?”. I think not.

Therefore, for the first time in the history of this Blog I am pulling the RACE CARD and publicly stating that for American media to question Michelle Obama’s patriotism in light of the history illustrated above when combined with her own personal background is indeed RACIST TO THE CORE.

I wonder how many of my readers will now challenge me for merely pointing it out?

MIchelle Obama is a very pretty woman. Could you please try to put a flaterring picture of her up on your post. I’m tired of seeing that picture everywhere and I don’t understand why it would be on a black blog. That’s the “angry black woman” photo the msm ALWAYS uses!

I agree with your post. This is much ado about nothing. I’m sure the attacks on her and Barack will get worse.

I agree with you all the way. You’ve seen it from the getgo with Michelle. I believe it’s because she’s a darker Sista. You’ve felt the undertones, as only Black folks would know the undertones.

Yeah, while Barack is interested in ‘crossing over’, they get the feeling that Michelle doesn’t give a #($*, and just as soon would tell you to ‘ Kiss My Black A$$’. …..then again, I get that feeling from her too..which is only one of the reasons why I absolutely adore her.

    “For the first time!!!!???”

“Let us see how much this female Negra loves her country, sayin that she‘s only be lovin it for the first time in 2008.”

1st Time: “We brought you Negras in the slavery to build our world, only killed almost 300 million gettin ya’ll over here but, you shoulda’ been happy with our sending you in to heaven.”

2nd Time: “We worked you Negras for over 300 years with no pay, you shoulda been happy that we killed, whipped, raped drowned and hanged y’all for not buildin our world fast enough.”

3rd Time: “We lynched every Negra we could get our hands on, bringing the total number of Negra fatalities caused by us since we came and got you to a ballpark of almost 600 million. She should have been happy that we did’nt kill every one you.”

4th Time: “How dare she say that she didn’t love slavery, we’ve only killed tortured, electrocuted, drowned and hanged her people for the past 450 years she’d ought to be happy that we have not given her people equal opportunity and equal rights since we brought them here.”

5th Time: “She’d ought to been happy that we have not given her type a gotdamn thing in reparations since her type has been here.”

6th Time: “She should of been happy that her type had us lynchin and killin you every day since they finished the job of building our country.”

7th Time: “She should of always been happy to have the opportunity for begging us to give you rights in our damn country that we found.”

8th Time: “She should have been happy that we gave her type the rights to beg us to be equal with us, while we continue killing to kill her type off.”

9th Time: “She’d should have been happy that we didn’t throw a noose around her neck, while she was in college.”

10th Time: “She should have been happy that we didn’t get the chance tie her up and drag her from the back of our truck.”

11th Time: “We only raped almost two hundred female Negras since they‘ve been in our country, she should have been happy that we have not got to her yet, like we’ve always done with her type .”

12th Time: “She should have been happy that finally after all these years Soldier Henry E. Hudson (Lieutenant General of White Supremacy Brigade) as already shown you what our country thinks of how we compare a Dog to a Negra).”

13th Time: “She’d ought to be happy with being married to a man that we have not dragged, electrocuted, tortured or hanged yet.”

“I got 13 got-damn reasons why she shoulda always been happy to be here. She shoulda’ always been happy in our country.”

“Was better than what she’s always had here?”

No challenge from me; I completely cosign with you. Only a febble-minded fool would take her statement the wrong way. -Unfortunately, these minds outnumber the rest of us.

It wouldn’t be difficult to understand the position of Mrs. Obama or quite a few other Blackamericans if there had been an open, honest discussion about race, politics, and history in this country. I have many Whiteamerican counterparts who insist on Blackamericans ‘getting over’ race and slavery by forgetting the past but what they, and some us don’t realize is such a statement, while it may be made in good faith, does little to trump ‘racism’. Either Blackamericans haven’t articulated what racism did to them in terms of developing a world-view consistent with their fellow Whiteamericans or Whiteamericans have selective hearing.

Michelle Obama is as American as apple pie because she worked for the American dream- “work hard and you will succeed”. She overrides the events in her life that happen to so many people in America and cause these people to give up on his/her personal dream. She has simply stated that for the first time in her life she can feel proud to be an American because an African American who has worked hard and endured hardships his entire life is now a more recognizable Democratic Presidential nominee. I too believed in the words and dreams of President John Kennedy. Color does not make a difference for the right to life in this country. Senator Obama is more recognizable because in spite of his hard work, the race card is still being played out as an excuse by any person in any race who want to just live off the concrete example of that being of a certain class, race, group, and connection will automatically put you in the place to succeed in this American life. Give an inner city classroom or any classroom to some of you and you would leave in the first five minutes. Take a 7-5 job at a sawmill during the 1960s and try to support seven children, you would not even think about it. Play the race card and talk to any American who has worked for the American dream such as Michelle Obama and you will get more than her response. Oh yes! Iran and other countries engaged in war surrounding this area are not the only ones who who have lost loved ones to a war which does not choose what person to kill. Live as a Negro, Colored, Black, or African American in this country during anytime of this country’s existence and you will find so many casualties or deaths from violence, separation, isolation, and any other deep conjecture to fail and I am sure you would not only yell “race card” but you will either die from the whining that you are now doing because you don’t want to work as hard or because you are deeply embedded with the premise that America is not for all immigrants but for some immigrants as those who founded this country and put forth “rules” to live by. In this world, we all have the right to live where we want and to work to make life as successful and happy as we can. I would hope that you will take advantage of this life.

She said “for the first time in my country I am REALLY proud of my country…” That is a completely different statment… But even if she had said the proud it was still taken out of context…

My statement is merely an interpretation of Michelle Obama. So I will take the meaning into my perception – “For the first time in my life I can feel proud to be an American”. I have had relatives to fight in wars and come back to this country humiliated and dehumanized. However, these people did not stop doing as is appropriate according to the laws of this country and they did not lose patriotism for this country. Yes, for the first time in my life, I can feel proud to be an American.

I completely co-sign. What you said was marvelous. Let me tell you that this whole fiasco has gotten me mad beyond belief and I completely agree with one of the commentors who stated that the issue is that we do not engage in enough discourse on important issues in our society. To watch the the media and the RIGHT take this comment out of context is WRONG. But you can add another related attack on Michelle Obama, her senior thesis at Princeton. They are attacking her thesis at Princeton and acting as if she is some militant black separatist who’s out to get white people for simply studying her own history and writing about her experiences. One article even labeled her as being “obsessed with her blackness” because she was a minor in African American Studies at Princeton…wow!! Even Politico has written an article trying to act as if its some big breaking story, as if the real Michelle Obama is hiding. It also shows me how many (whites) are ignorant when it comes to black history. I did not know that SNCC was a “extremist black seperatist organization that wanted to destroy all white people and America”. They tried this with Barack!! When they claimed he was sworn in on the Koran, refused to say the pledge of allegiance and put his hands over his heart. Blacks are always labeled as “militant” and “unpatriotic”. I agree with you the symptoms all point to the “Fear of the First Black Lady” disease which is a nice way to say…..racism!!!

Hillary Clinton’s thesis is on the website. Please google this item. I can imagine that the opponents are trying to make Michelle Obama’s thesis the rhetoric that Hillary Clinton expresses in hers which is based upon a person’s idea of polarization to win. Remember, after you read this thesis, this is how Bill Clinton began his rants. I am really surprised that the methodology that they seemed to use came from what they believe would work in “some parts” of this country today. Hillary Clinton really had more power and followers than she realized. Unfortunately, they used a methodology that was law in this country for many years.
