Fear of a Black First Lady…

As guest writer GregX stated in the preceding post, mainstream media has clearly changed gears in its opinion of Barack Obama. The “messiah”, as the media irreverently called him, is now ready for “crucifixion”.

The first line of attack was the ridiculous flack over the alleged “plagiarism of words” from Obama friend and supporter Duval Patrick. Obama’s retort in Wisconsin to the charge by Hillary Clinton that his soaring oratory was “just words” came from a 2006 speech that was consensually taken from his friend, then candidate for Governor of Massachusetts, Duval Patrick.

The notion that the common practice of borrowing portions of speeches from other politicians–particularly those who were close friends–rises to the level of media frenzy concerning Obama’s credibility illustrates one of the low points in corporate medias attempt to smear Barack Obama.

However, the “scandal” that truly rocked mainstream media stemmed from a statement made by Michelle Obama that has been elevated almost to the level of high treason.

During a campaign speech for her husband, Michelle Obama said:

 “Let me tell you something. For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country, because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback.”

Mrs. Obama then went on to state:

“And let me tell you something. I need to believe that we live in that kind of nation, where hope and possibility and unity is still what drives us.”

An objective person might ask, “What is the big deal about that statement?” The “big deal” is only recognized if one understands America’s racist history of attempting to portray African Americans as “unpatriotic.” This constant onslaught on the sensibilities of Black people and their American identity is a direct result of the true ignorance most Americans have about the history of Black people in the United States.

Important African American liberation struggles that came via men like Paul Robeson, leaders such as Malcolm X, and organizations like the Black Panther Party have always been used by Americas ruling class to illustrate that Black folk are innately subversive and have some perpetual plot to overtake the government looming in their minds.

However, the corrupt mainstream media while working at the behest of the American Ruling class always fails to illustrate the nuance in the degree of savage oppression and literal terrorism Black Americans have lived under up until at least the late 1960’s–and often times beyond that point.

In the face of this toxic message of looming Black treason constantly being sent out by the American ruling class, Barack Obama’s political campaign exudes a racial transcendence that I argue is not merely a cynical attempt to “con” white people into accepting a viable Black candidate, but a sincere attempt by Obama to create a coalition that rises above all the identity politics that has haunted America from its birth to the 1960’s.

Therefore, it is crucial that Obama: a bi-racial child of a Kenyan father with no organic connection to the American slave trade–keep vexing issues of race as far away from his campaign as possible. After all, Bill Clinton has already tried to margenilize Obama as “just another Black candidate.” 

Enter Michelle Obama: A woman who no one can dare inquire–as they did about her husband: “Is she Black enough?” In the eyes of many Americans they fear that Michelle might be, well, “too Black.” Or as rap group Public Enemy used to say: “Too Black, Too Strong.” 

While Barack Obama’s bi-racial complexion juxtaposed with his non-threatening charm and wiry frame make him the epitome of the “Guess whose coming to dinner Negroes”, Michelle Obama is from the South Side of Chicago, Brown Skinned, 5 foot 11 and clearly has told her share of people to  “talk to the hand.”  

In other words, Michelle Obama projects the aura of an intelligent Harvard trained, Princeton educated attorney with the confident strength, poise, and razor sharp honesty of a Black women who has navigated through the mean streets of  Chicago’s South Side unscathed. This is not the biography of the recent stepford wives that have occupied the roll of First Lady.

Furthermore, one can contend that Michelle Obama even trumps the Yale Law school educated First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, who though was perhaps the first “professional” to be First Lady, never dealt with the reality of being a Black women growing up in the Chicago streets while still academically excelling beyond the expectations of many from her origins. 

Taking the horrid history of the American ruling class questioning Black patriotism, and Michelle Obama’s personal history into consideration, the corrupt corporate media are trying to use Michelle Obama’s innocent statement about her “new-found” or maybe just “rejuvenated” pride in America as a sign that she is not patriotic.

In retrospect, if Michelle Obama was white can we truly say that her comments would have become an issue? Therefore, the scrutiny of her comments must then be looked at in the crucible of race and hence can be validly be considered “racist”.

If Laura Bush made the same statement about George W. Bush while taking pride in her husbands handling of 911– i.e.”In the face of this tragedy, for the first time in my I adult life I REALLY feel proud to be an American” or some similar statement at some point in Bush’s career, would people like Bill O’Reilly be having shows dedicated to the question of “Does Laura Bush Dislike America?” as he is having a show dedicated to the question: “Does Michelle Obama Dislike America?”. I think not.

Therefore, for the first time in the history of this Blog I am pulling the RACE CARD and publicly stating that for American media to question Michelle Obama’s patriotism in light of the history illustrated above when combined with her own personal background is indeed RACIST TO THE CORE.

I wonder how many of my readers will now challenge me for merely pointing it out?
