Conservative George Will Calls for Pull Out in Afghanistan

August 31, 2009

In the ultimate political irony conservative commentator George Will  is predicted by The Politico to argue for a full U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. Will, who is known to use rather colorful language when referring to people in the Muslim world, seems to have joined the ranks of those who realize that the war in Afghanistan is turning out to be nothing more than a quagmire.  Furthermore, its seems this war has little potential of bearing any desirable military fruit form a logistics perspective when compared to the potential for U.S. casualties.

Unfortunately, President Obama has argued for a dramatic increase in military presence in Afghanistan, causing many on the left to warn that this could become his Vietnam. With a staunch conservative like George Will now calling for troop withdrawal, it may be only the Obama administration that is willing to execute this most dubious military exploit.

According to Politico, Will writes in his column:

“[F]orces should be substantially reduced to serve a comprehensively revised policy: America should do only what can be done from offshore, using intelligence, drones, cruise missiles, airstrikes and small, potent special forces units, concentrating on the porous 1,500-mile border with Pakistan, a nation that actually matters,”

Watched Laura Ingraham on O’Reilly and she egged on an anti-war protester and gave her no debate. It’s appearing obvious the Cons will about-face on this topic as a means to diminish Obama.
