Channeling Haitian History During Black History Month

For me, as a Black person, as it should be for all Black people….
Haitian history is both a sword and a shield.
It is a shield in that it protects us from the lie that White people have a natural right to control our fate.
It is a sword, in that it reminds them that their blood can spill if they ever think their attempt to control our fate will be tolerated forever.
